Hot Chocolate Fudge Cake Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Cake:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
For the Fudge Topping:
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 1/4 cups hot water
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch square baking pan.
- Prepare the Cake Batter:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, combine the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. The batter will be thick.
- Spread the batter evenly in the prepared baking pan.
- Prepare the Fudge Topping:
- In a small bowl, mix together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cocoa powder.
- Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the batter in the baking pan.
- Add the Hot Water:
- Pour the hot water evenly over the top. Do not stir. The water will create a sauce as the cake bakes.
- Bake:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is firm. The cake will rise to the top, and a rich fudge sauce will form underneath.
- Cool Slightly:
- Let the cake cool for about 15 minutes. This allows the sauce to thicken slightly.
- Serve:
- Spoon the cake into serving bowls, making sure to get plenty of the fudge sauce from the bottom of the pan. Serve warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
