Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Ingredients:
- 1 pound fresh strawberries, with leaves attached
- 8 ounces semi-sweet or dark chocolate, finely chopped (or chocolate chips)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil or coconut oil (optional, for shine)
- 4 ounces white chocolate, finely chopped (optional, for drizzling)
- Optional toppings: crushed nuts, sprinkles, shredded coconut, or edible glitter
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Strawberries:
- Rinse the strawberries under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. Ensure they are completely dry before dipping to prevent the chocolate from seizing.
2. Melt the Chocolate:
- Stovetop Method: Fill a small saucepan with about an inch of water and bring it to a simmer. Place a heatproof bowl on top of the saucepan, ensuring the bottom of the bowl doesn’t touch the water. Add the semi-sweet or dark chocolate and vegetable oil (if using) to the bowl. Stir occasionally until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
- Microwave Method: Place the semi-sweet or dark chocolate and vegetable oil (if using) in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
3. Dip the Strawberries:
- Hold each strawberry by the leaves and dip it into the melted chocolate, allowing any excess chocolate to drip back into the bowl.
- Place the dipped strawberries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
4. Optional White Chocolate Drizzle:
- Melt the white chocolate using either the stovetop or microwave method described above.
- Using a fork or a piping bag with a small tip, drizzle the melted white chocolate over the chocolate-covered strawberries for a decorative touch.
5. Optional Toppings:
- Before the chocolate sets, you can sprinkle your choice of toppings (crushed nuts, sprinkles, shredded coconut, or edible glitter) over the chocolate-covered strawberries.
6. Let the Chocolate Set:
- Allow the chocolate-covered strawberries to sit at room temperature until the chocolate is set, about 30 minutes. If you’re in a hurry, you can place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes.
7. Serve:
- Once the chocolate is fully set, your chocolate-covered strawberries are ready to enjoy! Serve them on a platter or package them in a gift box.
Tips:
- Storage: Store chocolate-covered strawberries in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. However, they are best enjoyed fresh.
- Chocolate Variations: You can use milk chocolate or white chocolate instead of dark or semi-sweet chocolate if you prefer a sweeter taste.
Enjoy your delicious and elegant chocolate-covered strawberries!
