Churros with Chocolate Sauce
Ingredients:
For the Churros:
- 1 cup water
- 2 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
For the Chocolate Sauce:
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Churro Dough:
- In a medium saucepan, combine the water, sugar, salt, and vegetable oil. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the flour until the mixture forms a ball.
- Allow the dough to cool for a few minutes before transferring it to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.
2. Heat the Oil:
- In a large, deep skillet or deep fryer, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).
3. Fry the Churros:
- Carefully pipe 4-6 inch strips of dough into the hot oil, cutting the dough with scissors. Fry the churros until golden brown, turning them occasionally to ensure even cooking, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Using a slotted spoon, remove the churros from the oil and drain them on paper towels.
4. Coat the Churros:
- In a shallow dish, mix together the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.
- While the churros are still warm, roll them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until coated.
5. Prepare the Chocolate Sauce:
- In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer. Do not let it boil.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and add the chocolate chips. Let sit for a minute, then stir until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
- Stir in the vanilla extract.
6. Serve:
- Arrange the churros on a serving platter and serve with the warm chocolate sauce on the side for dipping.
