Strawberry Nutella French Toast Roll-Ups
Ingredients:
For the Roll-Ups:
- 8 slices of white bread (or any soft bread)
- 1/2 cup Nutella (hazelnut spread)
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, diced
For the Coating:
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
For Cooking:
- 2 tablespoons butter
For Garnish:
- Powdered sugar
- Maple syrup or extra Nutella for dipping (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Bread:
- Trim the crusts off the slices of bread.
- Flatten each slice of bread with a rolling pin until thin.
- Fill the Roll-Ups:
- Spread a thin layer of Nutella over each slice of flattened bread.
- Sprinkle diced strawberries evenly over the Nutella layer.
- Roll and Seal:
- Gently roll up each slice, starting from one end and rolling towards the other, keeping the filling inside. Press lightly to seal the edges.
- Prepare the Coating:
- In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon (if using) until well combined.
- Cook the Roll-Ups:
- Heat a non-stick skillet or frying pan over medium heat and add butter.
- Dip each roll-up into the egg mixture, ensuring all sides are coated.
- Place the roll-ups in the skillet, seam side down, and cook until all sides are golden brown, turning carefully with tongs. This should take about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Garnish and Serve:
- Remove the roll-ups from the skillet and place them on a plate.
- Dust with powdered sugar and serve with a side of maple syrup or extra Nutella for dipping, if desired.
Tips:
- Ensure the pan is not too hot to prevent burning the roll-ups before the egg coating is fully cooked.
- Use stale bread for easier rolling and better absorption of the egg mixture.
- Try other fillings, such as bananas or peanut butter, for variety.
